Sleep Recovery Specialist

This online course will upskill health and fitness professionals to develop the knowledge and abilities to change a client’s behaviours and habits to positively impact their sleep. This is a ground-breaking first for the European fitness industry and is sorely needed with up to 3/4 of the general public not achieving the recommended sleep requirements.

Why sleep coaching?

Sleep is considered to be the 3rd pillar of health and fitness, of equal importance alongside fitness and nutrition, but it typically gets the least focus when trying to achieve our health and fitness goals.

  • 1 in 3 adults report poor sleep during most nights of the week, with only 26% actually achieving the recommended 7-hour minimum amount of sleep per night (2017, The Great British Bedtime Report). The UK fitness industry has 10.4 million members (2020, Deloitte report). If 74% do not achieve the minimum 7 hours of sleep, this accounts for 7.7 million fitness club members who could benefit from sleep coaching and support. This represents a substantial need and a significant target market for certified sleep coaches. However, very few fitness professionals are currently qualified to coach their clients in sleep improvement.
  • Important fact! Fitness gains are not made in the gym. A good workout is merely a stimulus, that initially results in decreased performance over the 12-24 hours immediately following the workout. Fitness training provides the initial investment, while nutrition and sleep provide for a successful return on that investment through recovery, growth and physical development over 24-72 hours post-workout.
  • Only 39% of adults plan their sleep as part of their preparations for the next day (2018, US National Sleep Foundation). Fitness professionals are already well placed in society, within clubs, gyms, throughout the community, and online, to help support individuals to change modern habits and behaviours that are contributing to the damaging trend of decreased sleep within the adult population. Sleep coaching is very much needed, whether people realise it or not!
